Kelly D. Jordan Associate Emma Katz Successfully Argues Difficult Parenting Trial
Aug 12, 2022
Our firm was recently successful in a difficult parenting trial involving an 18-month-old girl. Emma Katz argued the 9 day trial, assisted by Melissa Richa. Our clients are a gay couple who cared for her since her birth but were not biologically connected to her. They were granted sole decision-making responsibility and primary residence of the child. The court did not favour biology in determining her best interests. The lengthy decision can be found here https://canlii.ca/t/jrkv0
The case has gathered attention in the legal community, including a recent column in the Financial Post. Link here: https://financialpost.com/personal-finance/family-finance/in-family-law-biology-no-longer-the-tiebreaker-when-a-childs-best-interest-is-at-stake
